Entered into eternal life on May 16, 2013. Born in Richmond, CA, Marlene attended schools there and in Belvidere, IL, where she graduated high school in 1950. A proud alumna of Stephens College and Beloit College. After marrying her beloved husband Robert, she joined him in Puerto Rico where he was stationed in the Army. They taught high school in Poplar Grove, IL before moving with their young children to Petaluma in 1965. For over 24 years, she was a highly-regarded teacher of Social Studies and World History at Petaluma Jr. High School. She and Bob divided their time in retirement between Calaveras County, CA and the Phoenix area. Marlene is also survived by children Kathleen Donahue (Guy Peterson) and the Rev. William P. Donahue, cousin Linda Davis (Bruce) of Belvidere, IL, and several distant cousins. She was a Native Daughter of the Golden West, a docent at the Murphys Old Timers Museum, active in the Professional Educational Organization (P.E.O.) and St. Patrick's Altar Society, and a supporter of the Calaveras Humane Society. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma, CA. A Funeral Mass and Final Committal will take place in Murphys, CA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick's Parish (Angels Camp, CA), the Calaveras Humane Society, or to a favorite local charity.
