92 years Mavis died on December 3rd, 2013 in Santa Clara, California where she had lived the last year of her life. She was 92 years old and died of natural causes. She is survived by her four nieces and nephews, Mark, Gail, Brett and Laurel. She was born on March 5, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Theodore Knupfer and Clara Biggs. Named Mavis, her father took to calling her Babe, a name that would stay with her for her entire life. She earned her Master's of Social Work at Columbia University and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She moved to Redwood City, California to be near her brother Robert, and his family. Upon retiring from a career in social work she moved to Cloverdale with her life's companion, Ann Squier. Upon Ann's death in 2005 she moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to family. A memorial service will be held for her at Skylawn Cemetery in San Mateo on Friday, December 20th at 11:30.
