Died suddenly on March 12, 2014 at the age of 67. Born to the late Bud and Marie Wilkes, he was also preceded in death by his brother Don. Tom was a loving husband for 24 years to Nance; father of Kristin, Kimberley and Molly; brother of William; and grandfather to Johnathan Thomas Hollis. Born in Sebastopol and raised in Guerneville and San Francisco, Tom graduated from Lowell High School and received a degree from City College of San Francisco. Tom served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a Quartermaster. He was the youngest man in the Navy retail system at the time. He had many career opportunities, and after 20 years retired from Kaiser Permanente as a Director of construction services for California. Tom and Nance returned to Guerneville in 2004 to live on the original property where his parents had worked to create a restaurant on in the early 1940s. Tom created a wonderful home and added chickens to complete the pastoral picture. Tom is a retired Board Member of the Russian River Fire Department. He was devoted to the support and mentoring of the fire fighters and community. Tom was beloved by many throughout his life. He made many friends along the way. He was always available to help someone in need and inspired those who needed career and life advice. A public Memorial Service will be held at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 14095 Woodland Drive, Guerneville on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 12 Noon. A reception will follow at the family home in Guerneville. In lieu of flowers, all donations should be made to the Russian River Fire Association, P.O. Box 367, Guerneville, CA 95446.
