Age 90, passed away on January 10, 2014. He was born in Steeleville, Illinois on April 1, 1923, a son of Herman and Mathilda (Dovemuelle) Brelje. Walter served his country in the Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in World War II, in the China Offensive, China Defensive and India Burma Campaigns. Walter earned his Bachelor Degree from UC Berkeley and worked as a civil engineer for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Sonoma County Retirement Board. He is survived by his wife, Edna Brelje; daughter, Ann Hill; two sons, Brian (Susan) and Brent (Karen) Brelje; two step-daughters, Carolyn Yarbrough and Shirley (Tom) Kuntz; and a step-son, Tom (Patti) Yarbrough; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 905 Men-docino Ave, Santa Rosa. Burial will follow at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16th at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Memorial contributions may be made to the , Memorial Hos-pice, or to Primrose Living Fund, 2080 Guerneville Rd., Santa Rosa.
