McCABE, ALEXANDER JOSEPH JR. (ALEX), 90 - of Galloway Township, formerly of Atlantic City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013. Born in Plains, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1922, Mr. McCabe moved to Atlantic City as a young child. He attended St. Nicholas Grade School and Holy Spirit High School. Mr. McCabe served in both the United States Merchant Marines and the United States Navy during World War II, then as an Atlantic City lifeguard, police officer, and firefighter, retiring as a Captain from the Atlantic City Fire Department. After retirement, Mr. McCabe enjoyed traveling and spending most of his winters in Florida with his wife. He also loved golf, horse racing, and watching his favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies. Mr. McCabe is predeceased by his wife, Jane; son, Patrick, and grandson, Bobby. Surviving him are his loving children; Joe McCabe and his wife, Dolly Ann, of Atlantic City, Jack McCabe and his wife, Marion, of Galloway, and daughter, Nancy Dougherty and her husband, John, of Seaville. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Stacey, Patrick, Erin, Kelly, Alex, Michael, Shawn, Chris, Patty, Jennifer, Naomi, and Tom; three great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Kaitlyn, and Patrick; his daughter-in-law, Roberta Sue McCabe of Norfolk; sister-in-law, Barbara McCabe of Atlantic City as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of the Resurrection will be Celebrated for Alex McCabe 10:00am Monday, May 6, 2013, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 2651 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City. Relatives and friends may call at the Church from 9:00am until the Mass. Mr. McCabe will be laid to rest at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Route 50, Estell Manor.
