AVELLINO, ALFRED J. 72 - of Egg Harbor Twp. went home to be with the Lord with his wife, children and grand-children by his side on Wed-nesday July 11th, 2013 after a courageous battle against cancer. "Al", as known by all, was born in Philadelphia, PA, graduated from Bishop Neumann High School and later in life attended Palomar College in San Marcos, CA. In 1958 Al joined the United States Air Force where he served with the 6918th RSM / SS as a Morse Intercept Operator. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Al joined the Philadelphia Police Department, serving in several divisions. Having met the most adoring woman during a dance, Al married his soul mate Sandy of fifty-two years and relocated the family to the Jersey Shore. Not ready to give up law enforcement Al joined the Longport Police Department where he served with honor from 1969 to 1971, leaving the Longport PD only to join the family's business, Ozzie's of Longport. In 1974 Al heard the calling and again relocated to San Diego, CA only to return to New Jersey in 1978 when he began a long career in the casino gaming industry until retiring in 2005. Al took pride in spending time with his family, whether it was golfing, boating, gardening, traveling, and watching his favorite Philadelphia sports teams as well as his grandchildren's life events. Al's other passions were serving as a Eucharistic Minister and being a Knight of Columbus where he served as a Past Grand Knight for the St. Katharine Drexel, Council #12868. Al is survived by his adoring wife Sandra; children Wayne (Jessica) Avellino, Debbie (Mike) Scull and Michele (Jim) Sweitzer; brother Alan (Marie) Avellino; mother Adeline Avellino; mother-in-law Alma Buzzetta; grandchildren Alexander and Antonia (Samantha) Komis, Mitchel and Christopher Price, and Salvatore and Cheyenne Avellino; great grandchildren; Kyros, Lucien and Corbin Komis and Brian Hlbert-Komis; as well as many nieces, nephews and faithful golden retrievers, Bo and PJ. Al is pre-deceased by his father Alfred M. Avellino. Viewings will be held Monday, July 15th from 7:00PM to 9:00PM and Tuesday, July 16th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 6075 W Jersey Ave., Egg Harbor Twp. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. Donations can be made to the
