RUTHERFORD, JOHN ELMER, JR., 71- of Burleigh, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Court House Convalescent Center. Born in North Wildwood to the late John Elmer and Shirley E. (Campbell) Rutherford, Sr., he was a lifetime resident of this area. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and earned an engineering degree from Vanderbilt University. He enjoyed the Cape May beaches and seashells and painted Cape May area seascapes. A former teacher at Maud Abrams Elementary School, he also spent a lot of time writing. He was known as the "Bicycle Man" in Cape May. John is survived by his children, Kimberly Whitehorn, Alison Rutherford, and Kenneth Rutherford; his sisters and brother, Caroline Mayes, Lawrence Rutherford, and Linda Sutton; his grandsons, Cory and Cody; and his aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Interment will be private. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
