BUCCI, KAROL M. 62 - born September 22, 1948 passed away peacefully on April 5, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Atlantic City, raised in Margate, Karol was a 38 year resident of Linwood with her caring husband Joe. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, teacher, colleague and friend. Helping and providing for others was her lifelong passion. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Joseph, daughter Kara and son-in-law Daniel, son Joseph and his fiance Danielle, mother Kay DiGiacinto and the "love-of-her-life" grandchildren Luke and Lily. Karol is predeceased by her father, Louis DiGiacinto. Karol graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1966, Glassboro State College in 1970 and earned her Master's from Rutgers University in 1994. She recently retired from 42 years of teaching Special Education at Oakcrest High School. While at Oakcrest, Karol helped create the School to Work, Job Shadowing and Dress for Success Programs. Her recognitions include: Oakcrest Teacher of the Year in 1998, Wal Mart Teacher Award in 2007, Princeton University Distinguished Teacher finalist in 2009 and she was twice awarded the Ralph Martin Grant. Her leadership enabled Oakcrest to pursue a state recognized in-class support program. Karol was professionally associated with: Phi Delta Kappa, Council for the Exceptional Child, Atlantic County School to Careers Partnership (Liaison), ACT Network, NEA, NJEA, OATA Offices. She held Corresponding Secretary, Negotiator, Department Liaison and Executive Board Member positions. Karol was also involved in numerous leadership development conferences and programs including: Certificates of Recognition, Honorary FFA Degree Member, ETTC Turn-key Trainer, Phi Beta Kappa Glassboro State College and the Chapter Human Relations Coalition at Richard Stockton College. Karol lived every day of her life for others, be it her family, friends or students. She will leave a lasting impact on all of the lives she touched during her journey. The love, energy and spirit she brought to this world will never fade. Visitation will be held today, Saturday, April 9th from 9:30-10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 724 Maple Avenue, Linwood followed by Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Karol Bucci Scholarship Fund, to honor her legacy.
