Mr. Bernard Edward Morgan Jr., 93, of 15114 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center. He was a native of Dinwiddie County and the son of the late Bernard E. Morgan Sr. and Lucy Virginia Washington Morgan.

He received his primary education at the Dinwiddie Normal Institute. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Virginia State College (University). Mr. Morgan continued his education with 36 semester hours in administrative training beyond his master's from the University of Virginia.

He began his teaching/principal career in 1948 at Dewitt Elementary. In 1963, he accepted the position as principal at Northside Elementary and in 1973, he became principal of Southside Elementary in which he retired from in 1982. He was also a master sergeant serving in the Army during World War II.

He was the widower of Gracell Campbell Morgan and a member of Mount Level Baptist Church where he served as a former treasurer. Mr. Morgan dedicated his life to education in Dinwiddie and has touched the lives of many.

He is survived by: three children, Bernard E. Morgan III (Viola) of Chesapeake, Don A. Morgan (Christine) and Bernetta M. Miles (Oliver) of Henrico; five grandchildren, Tonya Demby (Ken), Bernard E. Morgan IV, (Stephanie) Victoria Miles, Robert B. Morgan, and Monica Miles; a special great-grandson and name sake, Bernard E. Morgan V; a host of other relatives; and friends, among them Myrtella Hicks and Sylvia Epps.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Mount Level Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Bernard Coleman, officiating. The family can be contacted at 804-469-7629 (Don and Christine Morgan) and 804-264-8383 (Bernetta and Oliver Miles).

Mr. Morgan may be viewed from 12 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the Petersburg Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service.
