CHAPKOUNIAN, SIMON, 89, of North Providence, passed away Tuesday. He was the husband of Marion (Zarifian) Chapkounian. They had been married for 59 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Bedros and Margaret (Kevorkian) Chapkoonian. Mr. Chapkounian worked for the former Almacs Supermarkets for almost 40 years before retiring as produce manager in 1990. He was awarded the Purple Heart as an Army veteran of WW II. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Gary and Simon Chapkounian of North Providence, and Jack Chapkounian and his wife Cheryl of Johnston; a daughter, Judy Ayers and her husband Anthony of MA; and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Herepseme Chapkounian. His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 AM from the A. TARRO & SONS Funeral Home, 425 Broadway, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Church, Jefferson St., Providence. Burial with military honors will be in North Burial Ground, Providence. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Sts.
