ANTHONY, WILLIAM J. JR., MAJOR 92 of Wrentham Road, passed away Tuesday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence.Born in Stratford, CT he was the son of the late William J. and Kathryn (Quinn) Anthony Sr. He resided in Cumberland for the 51 years, previously residing in Lordship, CT. Mr. Anthony was a career United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the World War II and Korean Wars until retiring due to injury. His life's passion was the sport of tennis, and was a ranked tennis player on the senior circuit. He was a member of the Fore Court Tennis Club, the Abbott Run Valley Club. He was a consummate family man and friend to many. He leaves one daughter, Deborah Good of East Providence, one sister, Kathryn Allen of Stratford. CT three grandchildren Nadia Good, Samantha and Corey Giguere, two great-grandchildren Alexandra and Naomi Good; niece and nephews, Kathryn, Roy, and Michael Allen, as well as several other nieces and nephews. He also leaves his son-in-law William Montminy of Cranston, the Heckler family of Connecticut and the Bernard Anthony Family of California. He was the father of the late Lisa Anthony and Barbara Brunelle. Visiting Hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. Burial with military honors will be held Monday at 1 PM in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans Association, Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 1430, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My Dad was a good friend of Bill's and as kids I remember many a summers day on the tennis courts at ARVC with him. He was a kind and wonderful man whom our family admired so much. May God Bless your family during this sad time.
