Mr. H. Max Snowberger, 99, of 141 S. Price Avenue, Waynesboro, and a resident of assisted living in Menno Haven of Chambersburg, entered into eternal rest at 9:38 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Chambersburg Hospital. He was born on June 14, 1913 in Waynesboro; he was the son of the late Ira Ulysses Snowberger and Elsie Mae (Creager) Snowberger Haley. He was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro. Mr. Snowberger graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1931. Max and his wife, Mrs. Susan Rosalie (Newcomer) Snowberger, were married on November 16, 1940. Mrs. Snowberger died August 21, 1993. Mr. Snowberger moved to Menno Haven in July of 2012. Mr. Snowberger took his apprentenship at Teledyne Landis Machine Company in Waynesboro and then remained with the company as a pattern maker and a supervisor for over 50 years. He was a lifelong member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethrenand a member of Acacia Lodge #586 Free & Accepted Mason of Waynesboro, and he served as master in 1964; Harrisburg Consistory 32 degree; Zembo Temple of Harrisburg; South Chapter #2077 AARP, national AARP, Eagles Club Inc.; Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15; Pen Mar Dance Club; Marry Smith Dance Club of Hagerstown, MD, Golden Ball Room Dancers and was a member of the former B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731. Max enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling on the Landis Machine bowling league, shopping and buying and driving his Chrysler vehicles. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara S. Hickman and her husband, Laurence Hickman of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Stephanie S. (Taylor) Carbaugh of Waynesboro; Dr. Allison B. Hickman-McFerren and her husband, Andrew of Waynesboro, two great- grandchildren, Samantha Carbaugh and Brandon Carbaugh both of Waynesboro, one step-great-grandson, Evan McFerren of Waynesboro and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, H. Max "Sonny" Snowberger Jr. who died in 1954, one sister, Carmen (Snowberger) Settles and one brother, Joseph Donald Snowberger and one step-brother, Paul "June" Haley. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with a masonic memorial service starting at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Jesse Miles will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
