Waldemar J. Love Obituary
Waldemar J. Love Waldemar J. "Wally" Love, 81, of Newville, died on the morning of Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 23, 1933, in Gordon, a son of the late Herbert S. and Alma Reed Love. Wally was a 1952 graduate of Ashland High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June of 1952. He served a brief stint in the Korean War and then two tours in Vietnam, participating in 172 combat missions as a Gunner aboard an AC-130 Spectre Gunship. He was honorably discharged in May of 1975, as a Master Sargent, after 23 years of service. After leaving the military, Wally worked as a Corrections Officer at the Berks County Prison and then retired from the Camp Hill Correctional Facility in 1990. He was a Past Commander of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, Shippensburg; a life member of the Lawnton American Legion Post #998; a member of the AC-130 Spectre Association; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1299, Carlisle. Wally was a fantastic mechanic who loved to buy, fix up, then sell old cars, and sometimes he kept some for his own collection. He was also an avid hunter in his younger Wally is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mignon "Mickey", whom he married in Camp Hill on September 13, 1989; three children, William H. (Bonnie) Love of Wernersville, Doris A. (Andrew) Dickerson of San Diego, Calif., and Teresa J. (Dale) Speicher of Myerstown; four step-children, Richard M. (Johnette) Seecof of Latrobe, Sharon K. (Michael) Merrick of Alexandrea, Va., Tracy A. Grogan of Munhall, and Brad W. Seecof of Southampton; six grandchildren, Ellen, Joshua, Olivia, Tyler, Katie, and Stephanie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Clair J. Love; brother, William Hickman, and sister, Gertrude "Trudy" McHale. His funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Ft. Indiantown National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors. Pastor Eugene L. Shiffer will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday evening, April 10, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg.
