Carl Haas, Jr. passed away on October 4, 2013 at his home in Kingston, NV.
Carl was born July 8, 1929 to Carl V. Hass, Sr. and Jewel E. Conner in Dallas, TX. Carl graduated High School in Tonopah, NV and in later years graduated from the University of San Diego, where he became a paralegal specializing in water rights.
Carl married the love of his life, Del Loomis, at sea on October 30th 1967.
Carl spent many years ranching in Smoky Valley with his wife Del. He will be especially remembered for his many adventures including his Mexican gold mine, building Kingston, battling the government over water rights and sailing around the world as he wrote the story of his life. Carl loved to watch the San Francisco sunsets and smell the wild flowers in Death Valley. He was an accomplished small plane pilot and spent many hours high above the world flying in the clouds.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Leslie Shoopman of Fallon, NV and Sunny Allen of Reno, NV; grandchildren, Cassandra Shoopman, Alexandra Shoopman, Cody Brown and Cheyenne Brown; Kathryn Doheny, whom Carl thought of as a daughter and Patricia Brinkley, longtime companion.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Del Loomis; and his sister, Yvonne Newsam.
And when like her, oh Saki, you shall pass
Among the Guests star-scatter'd on the Grass,
And in your joyous Errand reach the Spot
Where I made one -- turn down an empty Glass!
A memorial will be held in Fallon at the Elks Lodge on October 18th from 2-5 pm and in Kingston, NV at Miles End on October 19th from 2-5 pm.
