Carson City, Nevada —Fred R. Lanman, age 76, passed away quietly January 4 at Renown Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Lanman is survived by a wife of 54 years, Peggy, brother Don, brother-in-law Ed Juchtzer, Niece Benda (Cory) Williams, nephew Brett (Terrie), great nieces Andrea (Andrew) Wickberg, Cindy Juchtzer, great nephew Stanley Juchtzer, and great great niece Kinley Wickberg.
Lanman was preceded in death by parents Russell and Lucille Lanman, and sister Dolores Juchtzer.
A lifelong Nevada resident and veteran, Lanman served 29 years in the military beginning with a Nevada Marine reserve unit in 1955, and ending with the Nevada Army National Guard where he was inducted into the Guard's prestigious "Hall of Fame" in 2009 and awarded the Armed Forces Commemorative Medal for meritorious service, retiring from active duty in 1997.
Graduating from Sparks High School and the University of Nevada, Lanman began his career as a manager with the Standard Oil Company. He later owned and operated a Standard Oil Automotive service business in Reno for 10 years,
Lanman's many civic activities included serving as the Exalted Ruler for the Sparks Elks lodge #2397, Secretary Treasurer for the Washoe Rifle & Pistol Club and a volunteer for local animal rescue organizations including the Dayton Valley Wildlife Infirmary.
In retirement Lanman pursued his other passions including scuba diving, travel, collecting antique automobiles, coins, guns and animal rescue.
Memorial services with Military Honors will be held at Walton's Chapel of the Valley on January 9th at 2 PM at 1281 N Roop St in Carson City. A private Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations may made in Fred's name to the Dayton Valley Wildlife Infirmary.
