John Downer Jr. Obituary
John Ronald Downer, Jr. (Ron)

On June 19, 2014, at the young age of 52, Ron passed into the hands of Our Lord. Ron had fallen ill and was too strong and too proud to let anyone know he was battling cancer, being diagnosed only a week before his sudden death. Ron's family, his girlfriend, Jennifer Harrison and buddy, John Deitmeyer were by his side when he took his last breath and began his journey home to heaven. He passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Ron, a lifelong Nevada resident, was born at St Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nevada. In his younger years, he attended Anderson Elementary, Pine Middle School, and Wooster High School.

Ron was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps Force Recon. He was an expert rifleman.

He was a strong courageous man who feared little.

Ron's amazing on the spot appraising abilities, made him a pawn broker extraordinaire. He managed several pawn shops in Reno, NV and had been managing the family business in Carson City for the last nine years.

At a very early age, Ron and his younger brother, Colt, learned to love and enjoy camping, hunting and outdoor life with their mother and father. These experiences were an integral part of shaping the man he would become. He had abundant love for the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Desert mountains finding joy and peace in their solitude and magnificence.

Ron is survived by his Mother, Maria A. Downer, his Father, John R. Downer, Sr., his brother C. Colt Downer and his girlfriend, Jennifer Harrison, all of whom loved him dearly.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Masonic Chapel (on the hill at Mountain View Cemetery) on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00am. A reception will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to the Shriner's Children Hospital or a .
