Roger Royce, age 70, a devoted dad, loyal friend, adventurer and lover of life, passed away while traveling in New Zealand on September 14, 2013. He was the son of the late Leonard Royce and is survived by his mother Marci Royce, children Elizabeth and Joshua Royce, sister Carol Wilder-Royce (Dr. Kevin Kelly), former wife Linda Sharpe, and many dear family, friends and colleagues.
He graduated from California State University. After a successful career in the clothing industry, Roger co-founded and was President/COO of SonoCine, Inc., Reno, a medical technology company that developed and markets the SonoCine Automated Breast Ultrasound System (AWBUS) for early detection of breast cancer missed by mammography in women with dense breast tissue.
Roger enjoyed sharing humorous stories and was the life of the party. He delighted in spending time with his thoughtful and caring kids; skiing the double blacks in the Sierras and Rockies, fishing, kayaking and scuba diving; sharing ideas on life, love, and relationships; supporting Rotary and the Reno Philharmonic; feeding the wild horses in his backyard with his adoring greyhound Little Bee; and providing opportunities for others to achieve their dreams. We will always love and miss Roger and the gifts he gave us.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held at his home in Reno on October 13, 2013 and a Remembrance at The Blake School in Hopkins, MN on October 19, 2013. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Roger Royce Breast Cancer Awareness Memorial c/o SonoCine, Inc., 8850 Terabyte Ct. Suite I, Reno, NV 89521. Your gift will help to support the important work of breast cancer detection.
