Thomas D Newton

Thomas Donald Newton, 84, passed away Sunday, September 1st, 2013 at his home in Sun Valley, Nevada. Thomas was born August 29, 1929 and grew up in Lakeland Florida.

Thomas served in the Air Force during the Korean War. When he was stationed in Guam he learned his craft to become an accomplished jeweler and certified gemologist. While stationed on the west coast at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California, he met and later married Shirley Rose Adams from Chico, California.

He came to the Reno area in the late 1950's and opened up the Custom Jeweler's shop, that was in business for over 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, always up for exploring the Nevada desert and beyond. He was active in the community as an Elks Lodge member and worked with the Washoe County Search and Rescue team.

Thomas is survived by three daughters, Roxhanna M. Newton, Mishelle L. Lopey and Synthya N. Buckley; grandchildren Jacob and Joshua Lopey.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13th at the Sierra Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 10:00am. The Family will greet friends at the gravesite either before or after the services. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to any animal shelter or rescue mission of your choice.
