BERNARD J. SEXTON, 89 DIXON - Bernard J. Sexton, 89, of Dixon, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. He was born in Ottawa, Illinois, July 23, 1924, the son of Bryan and Margaret (Jensen) Sexton. He managed Star Radiator Service in Ottawa, and had been a Police Magistrate in LaSalle County for 12 years. He move to Dixon to join Sentry Insurance and finally was the Lee County Zoning Officer prior to his retirement. After two attempts to enlist in the Army he was inducted and served in the Military Police during WWII. Bernard was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, Dixon Knights of Columbus Council 690 and the Fr. Boland Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the Dixon Elks Club, the Dixon VFW Post #540, and had served on the Lee County Board. He was an avid Bridge player and taught Bridge at Sauk Valley Community College. He was known to many as the "The Social Director". He married Catherine Wruck in 1948, in Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 8, 1972. Survivors include his daughter, Connie Sexton of Chicago; 1 brother, Francis (Laurie Ann) Sexton of Deerfield Beach, FL; 2 sisters, June MacMurray of Las Vegas, NV, and Bea Vines of Daytona Beach, FL; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Antoni Kretowicz, pastor officiating. Military Honors will follow Mass at the church by the Combined Veterans Group. Cremation rites will follow. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
