BERT E. BALLARD SR., 91 TAMPA, FL - Bert E. Ballard Sr., 91 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Melech Hospice House, Tampa, Florida. He was born in Summerdale, Alabama on May 8, 1923, the son of Bert S. and Ida (Lindeberg), Ballard. He moved to Illinois in 1938. He served in the Navy on the USS San Pablo during WWII. In 1954, he started Ballard Electric in Rockford, and was a charter member of the Northern Illinois Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Assn. He was a member of Tebala Shrine Temple, where he served on the Directors Staff and the Motorcycle Corp. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Harlow and Don; the mother of his children, and his wife, Gladys. He is survived by his sons, Ed (Christina) Ballard, Carl (Judy) Ballard; daughter, Barbara Kant; stepchildren, Diane Meicher Poppa, Dona Meicher Werwie, Frank (Lorna) Meicher, Denise Meicher, Karen Meicher, Duane (Donna) Meicher; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. A memorial visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Anderson-Long-Klontz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd., 6825 Weaver Road, Rockford, IL, with Rev. Ed Greenfield, OSF Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Private family burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Madison, Wisconsin.
