Bruce Libke Obituary

BRUCE MARVIN LIBKE, 69 INDIAN LAND, SC - Bruce Marvin Libke, 69, of London, England and Indian Land, SC, passed peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, February 20, 2014. He was lovingly married to Janet Rae Libke for forty-five years. The family also mourns their beloved mother, sister, and daughter-in-law, Jan, who preceded Bruce in death on December 29, 2013. Bruce served in the United States Navy Sea Bees battalion during the Vietnam War (1965-1967) and the Naval Reserves (1963-1971). He began his civilian career as a draftsman at the Borg Warner Corporation, followed by an engineering career at Clark-Hurth. In his later career, Bruce oversaw the engineering group designing axles and transmissions for off-highway equipment for Clark-Hurth and the Dana Corporation. Bruce is survived by his father, Marvin J. Libke, brother, Brian J. Libke, son, Matthew Libke, son, Gregory Libke, and three gorgeous granddaughters, who were the joys of his heart. Bruce was a devout member of the Catholic Church, and served as a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus. Bruce loved building model trains and actively participated in a model train club within his Sun City Carolina Lakes community. In his additional spare time, he golfed, read, traveled, and spent time with his three grand babies, Abbie, Ella, and Ava. A Visitation honoring Bruce and Jan will be held on Friday, March 28th from 12 to 1 p.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 1 p.m. held at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277. A Celebration of Life, in honor of Bruce and Jan, will be held at Sun City Carolina Lakes Community Center on Saturday, March 29th from 6 to 10 p.m., at 5074 Grandview Dr. Indian Land, SC 29707. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests your kind consideration of donations to Harvest Food Bank of Columbia, SC. (www.harvesthope.org).
