Carol Darby Obituary
CAROL S. DARBY, 81 ROCKFORD - Carol S. Darby, 81, of Rockford, died in her sleep Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, in her home. Born December 21, 1932, in Rockford, the daughter of Evans J. and Marion (Lamb) Anderson. Carol graduated from East Rockford High School in 1950, and married Samuel N. Darby on April 2, 1955, in Rockford. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. CJ chapter, Rockford Garden Club, and her favorite Gourmet Girls luncheon club. Carol was a founding member of the board of the New American Theater and The Symphony Singers of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra Auxiliary. Always a perfectionist, she exercised her many meticulous talents in organizing and decorating many charitable events, among them several Evergreen Balls. She, along with her husband, was a member of the Presidents' Counsel of the University of Illinois, and as a Rockford Illini club member was an avid Illini basketball fan. Her attention to detail was clearly obvious in every aspect of her life, from cooking to art selection and even to the plantings in her garden. A lover of animals, in this past year Carol had downsized to one friendly cat, "Sady". She is survived by her husband, Sam; children, Christian (Sarah) Darby, Paul (Linda Monty) Darby, and Ann Darby; grandchildren, Scott, Jeffrey, Sara, Griffin, Megan, Caitlin, and Jack; one great-grandson, Eli; sister, Judith (Larry) Larson; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Bill) Dahlquist and Marilyn Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends and neighbors. Predeceased by brother, Stephan Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May l5, at the Anderson Japanese Gardens, 318 Spring Creek Rd., with the Rev. Dr. William Ward officiating. A private family service was held on Wednesday, April l6, at the Nicholas Botanical Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to The Literacy Council, 982 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61103; The Nicholas Conservatory, 1354 N. Second St., Rockford, IL 61107; or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Rd., Rockford, IL 61l07. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd.
