CAROL ANNE (RAMSEY) SMITH, 77 ROCKFORD - Carol Anne (Ramsey) Smith, 77, of Rockford, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend, was set free on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Born Sept. 12, 1935, in Chicago, daughter of her proud parents, William "Bill" R. and Jewel L. (McCarville) Ramsey. Attended Roosevelt Jr. High, West High and Beloit College. Married David F. Smith in 1953. She was an elder and former committee member at Second Congregational Church United Church of Christ/First Presbyterian Church, election judge and Blackhawk Fire Auxiliary. Carol loved living and working on the family farm and caring for her animals and garden. She supported a number of conservation organizations, especially cared for the wolves. She was a camper, avid fisherman and world traveler from the Nile to the Amazon, from Africa to Antarctica and still had time to do a mean twist. She enjoyed conducting courthouse tours and giving pony rides to children. Carol spent her life raising her husband and children. She did a wonderful job. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by the love of her life, husband, David; children, Jan (Al) Pierce, Barb Smith, Julie Cook and Alan Smith; grandchildren, Kerry (Gina) Treadman, Abbey (Tony) Malk, Jennie (Zac) Peterson, Ben Cook, Stephanie (Justin) Svoboda, Brittany Smith and Corey Pierce; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Warren (Jane) Ramsey; sister, Susie (Bill) Kirby; special friend, Judy Mitchell; all the girls from club; and her black lab, Barrister. Predeceased by her parents. Service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Second Congregational Church, 318 N. Church St., with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial in Willwood Burial Park.
