CHARLES FRANCIS HALL JR., 102 ROCKFORD - Charles Francis Hall, Jr., 102, an educator and artist, died on June 29, 2013, in his home. He was born Dec. 1, 1910, in Streator, IL. He was a graduate of Illinois State University, University of Illinois, and Teachers College, Columbia University. He was a resident of Colorado from 1946 until moving to Rockford, IL in 1999. He taught at the University of Denver and the public schools of Bloomington, IL and Colorado Springs, CO. He was chairman of the social science department of Wasson High School in Colorado Springs before his retirement in 1976. For some years following his retirement, he had both the pleasure and privilege of being actively associated with The Arati Artists Gallery in Old Colorado City. He served as a reserve officer with the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific Theater of World War II, going into Japan with the occupying forces at the close of hostilities. He married Rachel Fern Bergstrom on May 31, 1941, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. Rachel died in Colorado Springs, CO, on June 18, 1991. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Martin) Wolff of Rockford, IL; three grandchildren, Cheryl (Barry), David, and Jonathan; a great-grandchild, Clara; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy.
