Donald Weichert Obituary
DONALD D. 'DON' WEICHERT, 70 ROCKFORD - Donald D. "Don" Weichert, 70, of Rockford, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, in his home. Born Nov. 27, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Darrell D. and Genevieve (Wright) Weichert. Lived in Iowa and Southern Minnesota before moving to Rockford in 1964. He married Patricia Donovan in 1961, and had two children, Pamela Marie and Penny Lou Weichert. After they divorced in 1976, he married Judith Lucas in 1978, and they had four more children, Brian, Bruce, Bradley, and April Lucas. Don worked at National Lock Co. in the screw division from 1964-73, then at Curt Fetrow Excavating until he started Donald Weichert Excavating in 1978, retiring in 2011, for medical issues. Don was known as one of the best excavators in the Rockford area. In his earlier years, Don enjoyed bowling and racing at the Rockford Speedway. Soon after remarrying he became interested in Camaros and his uncle's Model A Ford; he seemed to like any old car. Don earned his pilot's license in the mid 1980's, and owned two planes that he kept in his hangers at Cottonwood Airport. He really enjoyed the people and time he spent at the airport. He was a member of Forresters, Mason City Moose Club, EAA, AOPA, and the Moonriders Snowmobile Club, enjoying many good times spent with the club. Above all else, Don loved his family. He was proud of each and every one of them. In return they all loved him very much and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Pamela (Jim) Howard of Winnebago, Penny Hall of South Dakota, April (Jim) Camacho of Loves Park, Brian Lucas of Rockford, Bruce (Teresa) Lucas of Rockford, and Bradley (Mary) Lucas of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Christa Kennington, Valerie Lucas, Jacob Lucas, Rachel Lucas, Nick Lucas, Roxanne Lucas, and Max Camacho; great-grandchildren, Aliza Erie and Spencer Parrin; sister, Diane (Jim) Irions of Loves Park; brothers, Leland (Debbie) Weichert of West Virginia and Dean Weichert of Loves Park; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Rags. Predeceased by his parents; and brother, Richard Walker. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., with Pastor Dan Herman of Old Stone Church officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, in the North Main Chapel.
