GEORGE E. O'LEARY, 78 ROCKFORD - George E. O'Leary, 78, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born April 28, 1935, in Evanston, Ill; the son of George and Bernice O'Leary. He married Catherine Marie Duffy June 10, 1961, in St. Raymond's Cathedral in Joliet, Ill . A long-time resident of Rockford and devoted husband of 52 years. He graduated from St. Thomas in '53 and the University of Notre Dame in '57. He went to work after graduation for the Brass Works and then began his career at J.L. Clark where he retired after 35 years. He has been a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. His many pastimes included golfing, Notre Dame Club of Rockford, Habitat for Humanity, the Food Bank, Do-It-Yourself projects, Kentucky Derby celebrations, Corn Boil, Emma Lundgren July 4th, and the prestigious Turtle Club. He is survived by beloved wife, Catherine, loving father of sons, George, Joseph (Jane), Michael, and daughter, Margaret (James) Coyle; fond grandfather of Ryan, Catherine, Joey, Jimmy, Matthew, Patrick; uncle of many nieces and nephews; and dear brother, of Patricia O'Leary (Howard) Treat of Orange, CT; sister-in-law, Marilyn Cacciatore O'Leary of Albuquerque, NM. Predeceased by sister, Kathleen (Carl) Rydstrom; brother, James O'Leary; and niece, Mary Rydstrom. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd., Rockford. Visitation will be on Friday, January 3, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 p.m. A second visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church.
