HOWARD ALLEN PERSSON, 78 BELVIDERE - Howard Allen Persson, 78, of Belvidere passed away Monday, Dec. 24,2012, at his home. He was born May 31, 1934, in Boone County, the son of Emil R. and Elizabeth (Howe) Persson. He attended country schools and graduated from Belvidere High School. He married Shirley J. Yerk on Sept. 24, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belvidere. Howard was the chief turbine operator for Commonwealth Edison before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the VFW and Moose Club. Howard loved to camp and travel with his wife, after he retired they spent half the year camping at Blackhawk Campground in Milton, Wis., and the other half of the year at Mountain Home, Ark. He is survived by wife, Shirley J. Persson; children, Howard R. Persson and Carla (Steve) Smith, both of Belvidere, David O. (Cindy) Persson and Paul B. (Klaudia) Persson, both of Kenosha, Wis.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Huftalin of Belvidere; and brother, Carl (Velora) Persson of Belvidere. Predeceased by parents; nephew, Dennis Wehrwien; mother-in-law, Viola Yerk; brother-in-law, Harvey Huftalin; sister-in-law, Norma Persson. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in Belvidere Funeral Home, with the Rev. Karl Otto, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in his memory. Condolences to belviderefh.com.
