JANET LICHTENWALNER COVERT BENNETT, 83 ROCKFORD - Janet Lichtenwalner Covert Bennett, 83, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2013, at home. Janet was born August 15, 1929, in Rockford, daughter of Ray and Helen (Borchers) Lichtenwalner. She was a proud graduate of Rockford West High School, Class of 1947. She attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951. On August 15, 1956, she married Herbert Covert in Phoenix, AZ. Herbert passed away on March 11, 1971. In 1980 she married Frank Bennett in Rockford, IL. Frank passed away on January 26, 1982. Janet worked as a District Manager in the Circulation Department at the Rockford Register Star before working in the Production Dispatch Department at Sundstrand Corporation. She went on to work at the Rockford Public Library, where she worked as a library clerk, before retiring. She was a member of Beth Eden United Methodist Church, Friends of Rockford West High School and dedicated Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority sister. Janet enjoyed helping organize her class reunions and luncheons. She was generous, funny and a friend to all. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Survived by sons, Ray Peter Covert, Herbert A. Covert and Richard M. Covert; granddaughters, Olivia N. Covert, Emily E. Covert; grandsons, Christopher Schroeder and Thomas Covert; step-children, Sue Engelke, Sarah Conery and Rex Bennett; numerous step-grandchildren; and special friends, Phyliss G., Audre W., Bob R. and Marilyn P. She was predeceased by parents, husband's Herbert Covert and Frank Bennett. A special thank you to the dedicated staff at VNA Hospice and for all the loving care given to our mother, without whom we would not have been able to keep her at home.
