KENNETH L. OLSEN, 80 CALEDONIA - Kenneth L. Olsen, 80, of Caledonia, passed on January 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sterling, IL on December 22, 1933 to Andrew and Mayme (Lamack) Olsen and was orphaned at the age of 10 years old and raised by his sisters. Kenneth married Judith Gunderson on August 18, 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Porterfield during the Korean War and is a life member of the Loves Park VFW Post #9759. Kenneth was very proud to be employed by Sundstrand Aerospace for 41 years, retiring in 1991. He loved his family and friends and never met a stranger, he was proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed playing pinochle and cribbage, traveling, casinos and anything to do with any kind of tool ever made. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Ken had an outstanding sense of humor and was remembered as the "Big Guy". Survivors include, wife, Judy; daughters, Bonny (Mark) Tessendorf, Wendy (Ed) Hoffmann; son, Kenneth F. Olsen; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Lawrence, Joseph Bailey, Rebecca Bailey, Kayla Olsen, Zachery, Parker and Hannah Hoffmann; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Bailey and Kaiden Barnes; sister-in-law, Judy Olsen; predeceased by his parents; daughter, Tina; brothers, Frank and Karl; sisters, Irene, Dalores, Lois, Verna, Helen and Viola; great-grandson, Blake. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to every employee connected with Swedish American Hospital; Transition Hospice; Van Matre Rehabilitation Center as well as the loving staff of Kenny's East Bank Rehabilitation Center family that took outstanding care of him in the last 3 months; Special traveling friends, Pearl, Glenn and Betty. Memorial visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, January 30, in the Chapel of Cremation Society, 6825 Weaver Road, followed by memorial services at 11 a.m., with Chaplain Joe Barefield, of Transition Hospice, officiating; 11:30 a.m. military honors will be presented by Loves Park VFW Post #9759.
