L. ROBERT 'BOB' GOLDSWORTHY, 89 ROSCOE - L. Robert "Bob" Goldsworthy, 89, of Roscoe, IL, formerly of Rockford, IL, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, in North Pointe Terrace, Roscoe, IL. He was born May 18, 1924, in Beloit, WI, the son of James and Emilie (Thomann) Goldsworthy. Bob graduated from St. Thomas High School, Rockford, IL. He enlisted into the United States Navy after High School and served on D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. He served on USS LMS355 and the USS Vermillion. He also survived two of his ships being torpedoed and sunk. Bob went on to attend Milton College, Milton, WI and Beloit College, Beloit, WI. He married Ruth Folts on May 10, 1947, in St. Jude Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. He was formerly employed by Fairbanks Morse, Beloit WI, Twin Disc and Borg Warner, both in Rockford, IL, North American Engineering, MN, and Prop Shaft Supply, Elkhorn, WI. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, snowmobiling, and the outdoors. Bob was also a member of (S.E.A.) Society of American Engineers. He was a great dad who loved attending his children's sporting events, never missing any of them. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth Goldsworthy of Roscoe, IL; one son, Doug Goldsworthy of St. Louis Park, MN; one daughter, Diane Goldsworthy of Roscoe, IL; two grandchildren, Paige (Chris) Winn of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Sam Goldsworthy of St. Louis Park, MN; one great-grandchild, Hadley Winn; and one brother, Tom (Rozellan) Goldsworthy of Odessa, FL. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, James and John. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013, in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd. Beloit, WI, with Pastor Philip Allen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
