M. BRADLEY WOOD, 74 ROCKFORD - M. Bradley Wood, 74, of Rockford, died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, in Provena St. Anne Center. Born July 1, 1938, in Rockford; the son of Marshall and Margaret (Dale) Wood. Graduate of Rockford West High School, class of 1956, University of Wisconsin-Madison, class of 1960, and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, class of 1963. Served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corp stationed in Stuggart, Germany from 1960-62. He married Colleen (Wikse) Langley Sept. 27, 1980. Brad was a licensed funeral director for 50 years, and the owner/operator of Burpee Wood Funeral Home for 30 years until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Peter where he served as an usher, the Downtown Rotary Club for 42 years where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), Mercedes Benz Club of America (MBCA), Porsche Club of America (PCA), and was a former member of the Tebala Shrine Temple. Brad served as a board member for several organizations over the years, and volunteered at SwedishAmerican Hospital for 13 years, giving 4,000 hours of service. He loved all sports car races and was a corner worker for 30 years in flagging and communications at Road America and Blackhawk Raceway. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; children, Brad (Maria) Wood of Valley Village, Calif., Elizabeth Wood of Phoenix, Ariz., Andrea Langley of Rockford, and Stephen (Joy) Langley of Rockford; grandchildren, Dane Echevarria, Olivia and Vanessa Wood, and Connor, Morgan, and Ty Langley; and brothers-in-law, Pat (Ann) Wikse of Odessa, Texas and Dan (Deb) Wikse of Carmel, Ind. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, in the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St., with Rev. Carl Beekman officiating. Visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Family prefers memorials to Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary, 111 N. First St., Rockford, IL 61107.
