Marianna Anderson Obituary
MARIANNA 'MARY' ANDERSON, 95 ROCKFORD - Marianna "Mary" Anderson, 95, of Rockford, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in P.A. Peterson Center for Health. Born Aug. 15, 1918, in La Prairie, Ill.; the daughter of Carlton and Jessie (Musick) White. Graduated from Augusta High School and Western Illinois University with a teaching certificate. She married Chester "Chet" Anderson Nov. 12, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. He predeceased her Aug. 3, 2008. Mary was an elementary school teacher, beginning her career in a one-room school in La Prairie. She then taught first grade in the Rockford Public Schools at Gregory School for 27 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Martha Circle, Zion Pantry, Library and Funeral Service Committee. She was also a member of the Rockford Women's Club, Retired Teacher's Association, and life member of the Illinois Congress of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) inducted in 1957. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy L. Johnson of Rockford and Natalie M. (Dr. Robert) Willis of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Pete Willis of Texas, Jayme Willis of Oklahoma, and Tim Johnson of California; brothers, Forrest and Laurence White; sisters-in-law, Clara White and Mildred (Donald) Gustafson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Wayne White; sister, Inez Koehler; infant brother, Arnold; and nephews, David and Leon White. The family wishes to thank P.A. Peterson Center for Health and the staff of Bergmark Villa Alzheimer Unit for their loving care. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in Zion Lutheran Church, 925 Fifth Ave., with Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), 1001 E.
