MARY C. ALLEN, 77 ROCKFORD - Mary C. Allen, 77, of Rockford passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. She was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Rockford, the daughter of F.A. (Swanie) and Marion Swanson. After graduation from West High School, Mary attended Michigan State University. She married Richard Allen on Sept. 4, 1954, in Rockford. Mary spent her life taking care of her family, garden, home, and friends. She worked alongside her husband in their business, Entre Computer Center, from its opening in 1983 until 1996, managing financial matters. Mary loved to be at home, watching sports and tending to her flowers, but she also enjoyed travelling to see her family and friends, visiting national parks along the way. Mary loved the marathon card games she played with her close neighbors, children, and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Richard; their three children, Vickie (Jim) Westfall of DeSoto, Iowa, Rick (Karen) Allen of Carrollton, Texas and Sherry (Chris) Hayes of Warrenton, Va.; grandchildren, Sara, Jim, Kayla, Ryan, Madeleine, Ava and Sabrina. Predeceased by her parents and brother, Bill Swanson. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with memorial visitation from 2:30 p.m. to service time. In lieu of flower, donations can be made to the or the Raptor Resource Project of Decorah, Iowa.
