NANCY L. SCHMELING SHUGART, 85 ROCKFORD - Nancy L. Schmeling Shugart, 85, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, Ill. Born Aug. 7, 1928, in Rockford, Ill.; the daughter of Elmer A. and Florence S. Cope Schmeling. Nancy was a 1946 graduate of West High School and a graduate of University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois. Nancy married John Jack Shugart on Aug. 27, 1949, in Rockford; he predeceased her January 23, 2011. Nancy was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Altar Guild member. Her memberships included the Junior League of Rockford and the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She was on the Board of Directors of Wesley Willows and was a Board Member and President of Illinois Children's Home and Aid. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Peter Rundquist and Kathryn Shugart Galvin; grandchildren, Nancy Bryan Deaton and David Danielle Rundquist; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Lucas Deaton and Reagan Rundquist; sister, Suzanne William Kissenberth; brother, Roger Pat Fox Schmeling; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Thompson Schmeling. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 Horsman Rockford, with Pastor David Thies officiating. Private burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
