OSCAR ERICH 'RICK' SCHWEPPE, 91 ROCKFORD - Oscar Erich, "Rick" Schweppe, 91, Rockford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1921, in St. James, Minn., to Henry and Emma (Wittenberg) Schweppe. He was in the U.S. Navy in World War II where he fought in the Pacific Theatre and served as a radioman. He married Laura Schwanz in 1945, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950. He retired from Alpine Bank in 1983, where he was president and served as vice-chairman of the board. Rick was an avid golfer; he loved to travel in his RV and he had a great sense of humor. He and Laura had a great and full life together. He is survived by wife, Laura; children, John (Cathy) Schweppe and Julie (Robert) Grossner; grandsons, Kersten (Erin) Schweppe, Andrew Schweppe, Ross Grossner, and Erich Grossner; and great-grandchildren, Logan Schweppe and Elizabeth Schweppe. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Arthur, William and Arnold; and sister, Esther. Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service; Pastor Berg of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
