PAUL ROBERT HUENKEMEIER, 82 ROCKFORD - Paul Robert Huenkemeier, of Rockford died in his home at 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, after lengthy illnesses. Born July 17, 1930, son of Paul and Frances (Tunison) Huenkemeier. Paul lived most of his life in Rockford. As a child, he was baptized and confirmed at Centennial Methodist Church. After graduating from East High School in 1950, Paul served in the Air Force during the Korean War, where he was honored as Airman of the Month while training at Keeler Air Base. His time in the Air Force birthed his love for electronics for the rest of his life, paving his 45-year career as a TV and Audio technician at Hedrick Electric, Sears/Roebuck and his own company, Central TV. Paul married Marjorie Jeanette Crom of Dixon on Jan. 15, 1955. They became members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in the church's infancy. Paul was integral, serving faithfully as their audio technician, head-usher and trustee for decades. His love for the outdoors included fishing, camping, and boating, which turned to RV traveling to 49 states in his and his wife's retirement years, all with rich memories. During these travels, Paul began a genealogical search that culminated in finding ancestral family and returning to homelands in Germany, leaving a rich legacy. Member of Rockford Moose Club, and American Legion.
