PETER LOUIS CALGARO, JR., 71 ROSCOE - Peter Louis Calgaro, Jr., 71, of Roscoe, IL, passed away November 8, 2013 at 8:11 a.m. after a courageous battle with cancer, in his home surrounded by his family. Born the only child to Peter Calgaro Sr. and Nancy Sturdevant Calgaro in Rockford on August 3, 1942, he attended Rockford West High School. He joined the Navy in 1959 and was stationed in Tachikawa, Japan when he met his wife, Annmarie Nolte. They were married in Lakewood, Colorado on August 31, 1963. They came back to the Rockford area to raise their five children. Peter worked at the Belvidere Chrysler plant, and then became a Boone Country Sheriff's deputy. After getting an associate degree at Rock Valley College and a Bachelor's and Master's degree at Northern Illinois University, he became the Superintendent of the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention facility until he retired in 1997. In 1992, he was ordained a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church and in 2003 was named Parochial Administrator of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Roscoe, a position he held until recently. Peter was a 3rd degree member of St. Peters Knights of Columbus Council #8021 and earlier this year, he was inducted as a fourth degree member of Bishop Peter J. Muldoon Assembly # 190. In retirement, he enjoyed being with his family, working in the church, golfing and cruising. He will be forever in our hearts. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Annmarie; his father, Peter Louis Calgaro Sr., his five loving children, Peter (Aine Sullivan) Calgaro III, Patricia (Reed) Martin, Christine (Eric) May, Francois (Matthew) Kelso, and Theresa (Michael) O'Grady. He is also survived by his rambunctious grandchildren, Rachel and Peter Calgaro IV, Tabitha and Parker Martin, Eastin, Ambria, and Camden May, Kylee and Baby Boy Kelso, and Aidan and Riona O'Grady. Predeceased in death by his mother, Nancy. His family wishes to thank the Madison VA Hospital and Infusion Clinic, Dr. Natalie Callandar and Northern Illinois Hospice. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd, South Beloit, IL, with Father Steven Sabo officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the Daley Murphy Wisch and Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with a Scripture service at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, Roscoe, IL or Northern Illinois Hospice.
