RICHARD 'DICK' BARKSDALE ROCKFORD - Richard "Dick" Barksdale, of Rockford, departed this earthly life Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born November 24, 1928 in Paducah, Kentucky the son of Mitt and Dora Barksdale. Richard lived in Rockford 45 years coming from Hammond, Indiana. He married the former Mandy Whalen February 20, 1987 in Rockford. Richard was employed as a machine operator 18 years before retiring, later to become a bus driver by Rockford Public School District 205 serving 15 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. Richard was a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Minister. He was a member of the VFW Post 1277. He graduated from High School in Gary, Indiana. Richard leaves to cherish many loving memories the love of his life for 41 years, Mandy, four sons, Albert Goulding, Duqane Golden, DeMarcus and Dennis Barksdale and daughter, Lawanda Barksdale; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Richard Barksdale Jr.; grandson, David Barksdale; and sister, Ledora Nealy. Services will be held 12:00 noon, Wednesday, November 13, at My Fathers House Worship Center, 2405 Auburn Street, with Pastor Cletis Seals officiating. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
