RITA ANN DELEHANTY, 62 HACIENDA HEIGHTS, Calif. - Rita Ann Delehanty, 62, of Hacienda Heights, Calif., passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Born June 26, 1950, in Rockford, daughter of Francis E. and Loretta A. (White) Delehanty. Rita was raised Catholic. Graduated from Boylan Central High School in 1968. A natural born nurse, she took her first job as a nursing assistant at age 15. Attended Rock Valley College and graduated as a registered nurse from Saint Anthony's Hospital nursing program in 1975. Forsaking the name Rita as too formal, she preferred to be called by her initials - RAD. She moved to Texas in 1975 and studied critical care, earning her baccalaureate of science degree in nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1979. After a decade in Texas, she moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to work in the emergency department at MLK Hospital in Watts. Rita married Jim Crabtree in 1988, in Los Angeles. Rita's nursing career peaked to head nurse at Harbor UCLA Medical Center at Carson, Calif. RAD's natural talent for nursing eventually led her back to basic bedside care. At age 55, Rita began to have symptoms of Alzheimer's. Just four years after diagnosis, she lost her ability to recognize the people who loved her most. Rita is now at peace, restored whole again in the arms of her savior. She will always be missed by her family and friends. Survivors include husband, Jim Crabtree; brothers, Patrick, John, Jim and Gene Delehanty; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; and brothers, Michael and Kevin. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave., Rockford. Inurnment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Visit delehantyfh .com.
