ROBERT SCHOONOVER, 79 ROSCOE - Robert Schoonover, 79, went to be with our Lord, Thursday, January 30, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his family. Born July 8, 1934, in Rockford to Harry and Margaret Schoonover. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea as a radio operator. Bob was a founding member of the VFW Post 2995 of Roscoe, IL, serving as a commander from 1990-91. He was a member of Korean War Club of Rockford, IL and American Legion of South Beloit. He volunteered many years for the Roscoe Fire Department. He worked for Zant Office Machine Repair and Kinnikinnick School Dist. until retiring in 2009. In 1998, he married Shirley Hicks and together they volunteered as inspectors for Harlem Roscoe Fire Dept. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Shirley; children, Nancy Helton, Kevin (Vicki) Schoonover, Tracy (John) Terry, Tim (Kristen) Schoonover, Paul (Alisabeth) Hicks, Judy (Richard) Evans, Gail Czyzewski, Steven Hakes, Donna Neal, Lyle (Shauna) Hicks, Doug (Connie) Hicks, Glenda (Jim) Watson, Nola (Ian) Serrano, Caroline Stickel; many grand, great and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary and Charles; sisters, Sue (Don) Ball, Linda (Robert) McAffee, Dutchess Schoonover; sister-in-law, Diane Schoonover. Predeceased by first wife, Maxcine; brothers, William and Richard. A special thank you to the VA Hospital Madison, WI VA Hospice. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 11342 Main St., Roscoe, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be established at a later date.
