ROGER EUGENE JOHNSON, 83 LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, BROTHER, UNCLE AND FRIEND ROCKFORD - Roger Eugene Johnson, 83, went to be with the Lord at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 after a short illness and surrounded by his loving family in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born May 18, 1930 in Rockford, son of Walter W. and Melba (Linden) Johnson. He lived all his life in Rockford. Married Beryl Shultz on March 8, 1952 in Rockford. Served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Retired from Rockford Power Train after 42 years. Member of Central Christian Church for 60 years and Local 803 Retirees. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, word search puzzles and spending time with his family. He was a jigsaw puzzle pro and a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. "There's always next year." Survived by his wife of 61 years, Beryl; sons William Johnson, Rockford, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Johnson, Loves Park; daughter, Nancy (Andrew) Mercaitis, Stillman Valley; eight grandchildren, Brittnie (Brandon Eller) Johnson-Brugman, Connor (Natalya Plaster) Johnson, Tiffany Mercaitis, Parker Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Chrissy Lowrey, Rylee Mercaitis, Jenna Mercaitis; three greatgrandchildren, Keyleah Brugman, Sophieah Brugman, Liam Johnson; brother, Walter (Jeanette) Johnson Jr., Rockford; sister, Margie Harper, Cypress, Calif. Also survived by 34 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews. Predeceased by his parents; sisters, Lucille Johnson, Doris Johnson, Muriel Johnson, Betty Pearson, Mary Lee Wright, Barb Bullock; and brother, Maynard Johnson. Services 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Central Christian Church, 6595 Guilford Rd. Rockford with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the church and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
