RONALD 'RON' C. ANDREI, 79 lover of life, beloved husband ROCKFORD - Ronald "Ron" C. Andrei, 79, of Rockford passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at home. Born Dec. 21, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of John and Violet (Nowak) Andrei. Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956. Married Mary Edlin on Oct. 5, 1974. Ron retired in 1987 as a Sergeant with the Illinois State Police where he also served with the Department of Criminal Investigation. In 1976, he was presented with the Governor's Award for Valor. Ron distinguished himself with a lifetime of hard work, sense of accomplishment and thrift. Ron was a high energy person and good cook. He enjoyed helping others and was known for his quick wit and an ability to make people laugh. After retirement, Ron operated Pro Carpet Care for many years. Member of St. Peter Cathedral, Illinois Police Association and Fraternal Order of Police. Ron was a workout enthusiast with the early morning group at OSF Fitness Center. Ron's "tough" exterior encased a gentle, loving soul. Survivors include wife, Mary; daughter, Liz Severson of Rockford; sons, John of Texas and Will of California; granddaughters, Kristina Heral, Gabrielle Severson, Lexie and Georgia Andrei and Norma Grace; brothers, Joe of Georgia and John and Bob, both of Florida. Predeceased by parents; and brother, Charlie. Memorial mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at St. Peter Cathedral, 1243 N. Church St., with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time.
