Salvatore Sherman Obituary
SALVATORE 'SAM' SHERMAN, 87 ROCKFORD - Salvatore "Sam" Sherman, 87, of Rockford passed away peacefully at 11:10 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, in St. Anne Center, after a short illness. Born December 4, 1926, in Rockford; son of Charles and Josephine Sherman. He was married to Marie A. Paris in Rockford on August 28, 1948. Sam was employed as a truck driver and Teamster, first working for Jones Transfer. He then went on to work for North Shore Trucking, from which he retired. Was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy as a baker. Member of St. Anthony Church, East Rockford Pigeon Club, Teamsters Local 325 and St. Ambrose Society. For more than 70 years Sam prided himself in racing pigeons. But most of all he loved his family. Sam's family would like to thank the great guy's at St Ambrose Society for their patience, love and understanding. Survivors include wife, Marie; daughter, Karen Anderson; grandchildren, Nick (Gina) Anderson, Shelby (Mike) Moore; great- grandchildren, Gianna, Garrett, Zach Moore, and Samantha and Sofia Anderson; brother, Vince (Lita); and sisters-in-law, Florence Tarquini and Jean (Don) Restauri. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Tony and Joe; sister, Dorothy Hendricks; son-in-law, Dan Anderson; sister-in-law, Ida Calkins; and brother-in-law, Dominic Tarquini. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at St. Anthony Church, with Father William Wentink officiating. Friends may call at Gasparini & Oliveri Funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to time of service Wednesday at the church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
