THOMAS JOSEPH WALSH, 90 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Thomas Joseph Walsh, 90, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 9, 1923, in Chicago, IL, the son of Andrew and Margaret (Coyne) Walsh. He graduated from St. Leo HS in Chicago and attended DePaul University. Tom was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army's 1306th Engineering Regiment, 3rd Army. He saw action in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge and the occupation of Japan. On April 18, 1953, he married Dorothy Kindberg. They spent 60 beautiful years together and raised four wonderful children in Rockford, IL. He and Dorothy moved to Ft. Wayne three years ago to be close to the family. He was a longtime member of St Edward Parish in Rockford IL, and was very involved in the Democratic party of Winnebago County, IL. Tom volunteered at numerous local city charities and donated many hours to "Give Kids the World". Tom retired from Castle Metals where he worked for 25 years. He and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Florida, but his true passion in life was his family. Tom always made everyone feel welcome, at their home of over 50 years. Surviving are his loving wife, Dorothy Walsh of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Kevin (Beth) Walsh of Fort Wayne, IN; daughters, Kathleen (Melissa) Walsh of Madison, WI, Ann Walsh of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia (Ron) West of Brownsburg, IN; brother, Bart Walsh of Delavan WI; he was blessed by three grandchildren, Colin Walsh, Nora and Josephine Van Horn and numerous nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Anna Marie, Margaret and Rita and brothers, Andrew, Patrick, Peter, and Bernard. Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at St. Anne Home Chapel, with calling one hour prior and Fr. John Overmyer officiating. Calling also Friday, December 20, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. and a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue. Private burial in St. Andrews Cemetery, Delavan WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the League for the Blind & Disabled or Give Kids the World Charity.
