WALTER 'BUD' PATSCH PALM CITY, Fla. - Walter Herbert Patsch of Palm City, Florida peacefully left this earth to be with his Lord on September 24, 2013. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 30th, 1928. Walt served in the Army overseas in Sapporo, Japan as a medic in the 11th Airborne Division 187th Parachute Glider Regiment known as the "The Angels" from 1946-1948. He met his bride of 60 years, JoAnn Shields-Patsch in their senior year at Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak, Michigan. They both graduated from Michigan State University in 1953, and married that summer. Settling in Rockford, Illinois, Walter had a long career with Reader's Digest. He was known for his love of family, the go-to guy of the neighborhood and his single digit golf handicap. He enjoyed flying and was a member of the Rockford Flying Club and served as head usher at First Assembly of God Church where he was a member for many years. He loved the musicals of his era and was a Civil War buff. Walter retired to Lake Worth, Florida and worked for the "love-of-it" at Winston Trails and Greenview Cove Country Club where he was head ranger. His loving memories will be cherished by his wife, JoAnn and his three daughters, Lori Patsch and partner, Vickie Shaw of Houston, TX, Linda Porter and her husband, Robert Porter of Aspen, CO and Leslie Kirkland and her husband, Darren Kirkland of Stuart, FL. He was "Boppie" to nine grandchildren, Ashley, David and Alex Porter; Kelly, Paige and Amy Kirkland; Hailey Morris; Matthew and Wesley Shaw; three great grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia and Isabella Shaw. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests, with gratitude, any contributions in memory of Walter should be directed to Brianna Cooper Heavenly Smiles Foundation (6526 South Kanner Hwy, PMB195; Stuart, FL 34997) or .
