John Melnyk, age 83 years, of Wernersville, passed away Monday,
February 17th, peacefully, at his residence.
The husband of Josephine D. (Neg-ri) Melnyk, John was born in Reading on June 5, 1930, a son of the late Mary (Spolski) and
A graduate from Reading High School, class of 1948, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an A1C in the
He was a member of St. Frances Desales R.C. Church, Robesonia. He was employed as a firefighter for the Reading Fire Department as driver on the
Marion Ladder Truck for most of his career, retiring in 1985. He also served as a President of the Firefighters Local #1803. He was also a Eucharistic Minister with Holy Rosary RC Church and Reading Hospital. John
enjoyed helping other
people and also loved the History Channel.
In addition to his wife,
Josephine, he is survived by two sons: Jeffrey J. Melnyk, husband of Mitzi (nee Haring) Melnyk, of Mt. Penn; and Gregory J. Melnyk, husband of Cindy (nee Eroh) Melnyk, of
Bernville. He is also sur-vived by one granddaughter, Astin, wife of Chris Vitkauskas; and two great-granddaughters, Jasmine and Jocelyn Vitkauskas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Frances DeSales R.C. Church, Robesonia, on Monday, February 24th at 10 AM. Friends and relatives are invited to call Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at the John P. Feeney Funeral Home and Monday morning from 9 AM until 10 AM, at St. Frances DeSales R.C. Church. Interment is private at the convenience of the family at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.
