Nicholas R. Carlance Jr., of Reading, passed away August 27, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center.
He was the husband of Augustine J. (Appolloni) Carlance, who passed away August 28, 2012. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Nicholas R. Sr. and Ruth (Ganster) Carlance.
Mr. Carlance was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School and was a US Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
He was employed at the State Police barracks as a driver examiner, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Calvary UCC, Reading; other organizations include: life-time member of VFW Hunter Liggett Post where he was past Post Commander, Junior Fire Company of Reading, PARSE and Ivy Leaf Association.
Mr. Carlance was an avid baseball fan, and was a season ticket holder for the Reading Phillies.
Survivors include two sons, Gene M. Carlance, husband of Miriam Carlance, Laureldale; James R. Carlance, Reading; two grandchildren, Larry Carlance and Amber Carlance.
He was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Carlance.

Funeral service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 1605 Rockland St., Hampden Heights, Reading, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. Stephen Ohnsman officiating. Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery with military honors. Family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00-11:00 a.m.
