JOYCE FRASER Obituary
Joyce (Cowan) Fraser
Joyce Fraser passed away at home in Redlands, CA on July 26, 2014 after a long battle with Dystonia. She was born in Redlands, CA on December 20, 1936, the daughter of F.B. "Bud" Cowan and Elizabeth O. Cowan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lt. Col. Robert J. Fraser and her sister Barbara (Cowan) Kindred. She is survived by her brother Jack Cowan of San Bernardino; her sons Eric Fraser of Redlands and Jeff Scott of San Rafael, CA, their wives, and four grandchildren.
Joyce was a graduate of Redlands High School and the University of Redlands. She became an elementary school teacher and taught at a number of elementary schools including Parkside Elementary in San Bernardino and Bonnie Oehl in Highland. She loved teaching children and ultimately became a Master teacher and cultivated a specialty in the area of teaching the Gifted. Even after retiring, she continued her association with schools and kids as a judge for the Destination Imagination program.
Joyce was a voracious reader, world traveler, and gourmet chef. She was lifetime supporter of preserving the culture and landmarks of Redlands. Over the years she actively participated in a number of groups including the Redlands Bowl Associates, the Breakfast Club, and as a docent at Kimberly Crest. She was one of the "instigators" that led a campaign to save the La Posada hotel in downtown Redlands. Gifts in her name may be made to the Redlands Conservancy.
