Mary Huck Colmar long time resident of Plymouth Village, Redlands, CA passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2014. She was 97.
A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Redlands, CA on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 am with a reception following in the church hall, Father Paul Price officiating. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 419 S. 4th St., Redlands, CA 92373 or Friends of the Library, A K Smiley Public Library, 125 W. Vine, Redlands, CA 92373.
Mrs. Colmar was preceded in death by her late husband of 61 years, Wilfred B. Colmar and her four sisters; Virginia Huck Gaylord, Marsha Huck McCurdy, Lucy Huck and Charlotte Huck. She is survived by her two sons, Carl Colmar of Dothan, AL and David Colmar of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. (nieces Charlotte Burgess and Jean Gaylord, both of Redlands)
Mrs. Colmar was born March 25th, 1917 in Evanston, IL, grew up in Kennilworth, IL, graduated from New Trier High School and attended Northwestern University, class of 1939, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. Stationed in San Diego during WW II the family moved to Prospect Heights, IL after the War where Mrs. Colmar was a member of the Alter Guild of Saint John's Episcopal Church, a member of the local School Board and a Cub Scout Den Mother.
1958 brought the family back to Southern California and Orange County, where Mrs. Colmar continued her community activity with All Saint's Episcopal Church, the Grey Lady Service at Long Beach Veterans Hospital and a year- long sponsorship of an exchange student through the American Field Service. She served for many years as Head Librarian of the Mary Wilson Library in Seal Beach, CA (Orange County) ultimately retiring in the late 1980's. She and her husband relocated to Redlands in 1993 to be closer to her sisters and family.
Above all Mrs. Colmar valued her family and her friendships' with individuals, many of whom she has known she since grade school. Prior to Mrs. Colmar's death she was asked to describe her life in six words, her comment was; "my husband spelled happiness to me!"
