William Robert Detrick

William "Bill" Detrick, 90, passed away on September 26, 2013 of natural causes. He was born on October 23, 1922 in Dayton, OH to William C. and Goldie Detrick. He is survived by his wife, Lois Detrick and 5 children, Carol Schwartz of Los Angeles, CA, Janet Cazares of Hacienda Heights, CA, Gary Detrick of Newark, OH, Bonnie Crouse of Carpinteria, CA and Ted Detrick of Bainbridge Island, WA, 4 step-children, Diana Smith and Janice Anderson of Springfield, MO, Phyllis Lansley of Fullerton, CA and Bruce Beadles of Willard, MO and 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rebecca Detrick, a brother C. W. (Cleo) Detrick and his first wife, Faith Detrick.
Bill graduated from Manchester College in Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and received a master's degree from University of Cincinnati. He spent a 27 year career in the United States Air Force serving from World War II until 1969, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement he taught school in Rialto, CA and San Bernardino, CA, and was in sales in automobiles and real estate. Bill and Lois were married in Redlands, CA in 1984. He was very active musically, directing and singing in church choirs and was a member of the Inland Master Chorale in Redlands, CA. Bill also served as president of the Citrus Belters Chapter of the SPEBSQSA (barbershop quartets) in Riverside, CA. A son of a minister, he was very active in churches in the various places in which he lived and held many offices and positions in them. Bill was a member of South Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Springfield, MO. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family, traveling around the United States in an RV, visiting over 300 Nation Park sites, and was an excellent photographer, especially nature and outdoor photography. A memorial service was held at South Street Christian Church, Springfield on Sept. 28th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Crosslines of Springfield.
